GCHP

Our History

Gulf Coast Housing Partnership grew out of discussions in the fall of 2005 among members of the Housing Partnership Network, a business alliance of the nation’s most accomplished affordable housing developers, service providers and lenders, who were seeking to assist with rebuilding efforts along the Gulf Coast after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

After securing startup grant funds from Freddie Mac and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Housing Partnership Network successfully recruited New Orleans developer and community lending expert Kathy Laborde to launch and lead this new 501(c)(3) real estate development company. Ms. Laborde assembled a board of directors comprised of respected national and local real estate development, finance and community leaders, and utilizing seed capital from the Housing Partnership Network and Enterprise Community Partners, Gulf Coast Housing Partnership officially opened its doors on Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard in January 2006.

In its first 14 years, Gulf Coast Housing Partnership has developed or preserved 3,150 affordable and mixed-income housing units and more than 360,000 square feet of commercial space.

This activity has occurred in 13 distinct communities in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas and has strengthened the capacity of 51 community-based partners.

There are so many who have worked hard to bring New Orleans neighborhoods back but the vision, creativity and work product of the Gulf Coast Housing Partnership is especially noteworthy of our praise and gratitude. We will always value our working relationship with GCHP because it continues to inspire our creativity to shape alternative realities of the future for our communities.
